Why should we expect Israel to negotiate with Hamas, terrorists who are hell-bent on eradicating Israel from the face of the Earth when I can’t even get seemingly rationale people, living in the best country in the world, under the best circumstances, to act civilly?

Day after day, I deal with people who I think are “rude.” My husband, on the other hand, thinks they’re just clueless and/or stupid and/or narcissistic. Whatever you want to call them, they have no idea who is around them or whether their behavior affects anyone else.

I either have to tell people to use their “inside voice” when they’re using their cell phones in the most inappropriate places, or I have to see someone’s car taking up two parking spaces at peak hours. Frequently, I hold a door open for someone coming in after me without getting a “thank you” in return. Too often, people stop in the middle of a very crowded area, block all other incoming traffic, just to drop off their passengers in front of the ferry terminal when there is a designated area for doing so. And these people are seemingly intelligent over-educated people living on a beautiful island in the Pacific Northwest.

Here’s a perfect example of what I’m writing about. A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I went to a free outdoor concert starring a pretty famous pop star from the 80s at a nearby casino. Knowing it would be crowded, we brought our chairs early, got a good spot, and sat on a gorgeous summer evening waiting for the show to start. A couple of people were in front of us and a couple of people were in front of them. We could all see the stage very easily. The show began, the singer sounded great, she looked great, and the music was lots of fun. Half way through, the two people sitting two rows in front of us left. What happens next? Three adults arrived half way through the show, rolling in a hospital bed, yes, a hospital bed, with some unfortunate soul and parked it in front of the people in front of us. My husband immediately got up and asked these three numbnuts to roll the bed to the left closer to the barrier so it would not block the view of everyone behind it. Well, after a minute of discussions among themselves, they moved the bed a few inches but the adults stood all around it still blocking everyone’s view anyway. If that wasn’t enough, we all had had to watch the younger woman (probably in her 40s) gesticulate, dance around and caress the man in the bed. I have no idea what all the relationships were, but it creeped me out. They shook the bed and lifted the man’s arms to the beat of the music. From the looks of things, I don’t think the poor guy in the bed had any idea of who was singing, where he was, or what was going on around him. The whole thing was a very uncomfortable spectacle.

So, here we are, on a beautiful summer night, listening to some great music, and instead of these people either arriving early, parking the bed so that we could arrange our chairs around it, or just stay further back so no one else’s view is obstructed, what do they do? They rudely arrive mid-concert, park in front of a whole lot of people, block everyone’s view and think nothing of it.

As angry as I was, these idiots probably had no animus towards anyone. They’re either rude, clueless, stupid or narcissistic.

So, if I can’t even get people to act civilly, how can Israel be expected to sit down with people who hate them, are determined to kill each and every one of them, and are intent on wiping Israel off the face of the map? It can’t. How can you negotiate with evil? You don’t. How do you have a reasonable conversation with those whose charter says, “The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (evidently a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews.” You don’t.

Whatever negotiated deal is eventually reached, the bottom line will always be that Hamas, and terrorists like them, want to kill every Jew on the planet and destroy Israel. They want the rest of us to convert, die or be enslaved. They have nothing in their lives – no future, no career, nothing – only hate. Period.
