I thought it was outrageous when Timothy Geithner hadn’t paid his taxes and coughed up $42,000 before being confirmed as Secretary of the Treasury, but there are plenty more like him currently in the Obama Administration.
I’m sure there have always been those who try to get away with not paying their taxes, but it’s the boss in the White House who’s telling everyone else they have to pay their “fair share.” It just doesn’t seem to apply to some very well paid employees of the federal government.
For example, 36 of President Obama’s executive office staff owe $833,970 in back taxes. There are 457 aides making $37 million a year – up seven workers and nearly $4 million from the Bush administration.
Employees of the U.S. Senate owe $2.1 million. Workers in the House of Representatives owe $8.5 million, Department of Education employees owe $4.3 million and at Homeland Security, 4,697 workers owe about $37 million.
$9.3 million is owed by 1,181 employees of the Treasury Department while 25,640 workers at the Postal Service owe almost $270 million. And, finally, the Department of Justice, has 2,069 employees who are nearly $17 million behind in their taxes.
Looks like we, as taxpayers, are paying a whole lot of salaries while the recipients of those salaries aren’t paying their own income taxes. Now how is that “fair”?
