From a letter published in the Seattle Times last year:

Today is Veterans Day.  It is a time for all Americans to pledge full support to our servicemen and women who honorably served their country; a time to covet the history and memories of those who dedicated their lives to the continuous struggle for peace. Most of all, it is a time to salute their tenacious service and sacrifice for our freedom.

Please remember, if you cherish your rights, thank a veteran, the ones who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice. These individuals do not consider themselves heroes, but in our eyes they are America’s treasures — the ones who so unselfishly gave in the preservation of our freedom. And to all our troops in the Middle East, may God bless and bring each and every one of you home to us safely. Our veterans are America’s heroes, and poor is a nation that forgets its heroes.
