Joe Biden may look like Jeff Dunham’s ventriloquist dummy, Walter, but I think even Walter makes a lot more sense.

Honest to God, I have no idea how Joe Biden got to be Vice President.  I remember when he ran for President in 1988 but backed out soon after a report surfaced that he, uh, how should I say, borrowed some words from others without giving them credit.  It was a different world back then.

Fast forward twenty years and it’s still a mystery how Barack Obama selected him as his running mate when, early on in the 2008 Presidential race, Biden said about Obama, “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

I can go on and on with Bidenisms but I’m more concerned about his recent statement in China and its one-child policy.

Before I get into that, what’s still stuck in my craw is Obama’s toast to the Chinese President in which he mentioned the “values that our people share…reverence for family…and desire to give our children a better life….”  Tell that to the millions of babies killed in China as a result of forced abortions and the 54 million+ we’ve killed in this country since 1973, Mr. President.

But getting back to Biden, a Roman Catholic by the way,  while speaking at Sichuan University, said, “Your [one-child] policy has been one which I fully understand…”  He didn’t condemn the totalitarian policy of forcing abortions on women, but condemned the fact that, economically, the policy is not sustainable.

Rep. Chris Smith, who co-sponsored a resolution in 2008, asking China to stop its forced abortion campaign, explained the reality of the policy.  “As a direct result of the government’s one child policy, tens of millions of girls are missing today—dead due to sex selection abortions—creating a huge gender disparity… The lost girls of China is gendercide… With its heavy reliance on forced abortion, involuntary sterilization and ruinous fines for illegal children, the policy, in effect since 1979, constitutes one of the greatest continuous crimes against humanity in human history.”

I guess when we have a President with a very long pro-abortion record, I shouldn’t be surprised that the next-in-line to the White House “fully understands” the horrific policy of China.

As expected, in the wake of the inevitable criticism, Biden’s spokesperson, Kendra Barkoff, in an email, said the following, “The Obama Administration strongly opposes all aspects of China’s coercive birth limitation policies, including forced abortion and sterilization…”  Then why the hell didn’t Biden preface his remarks at the University with that statement?  Instead, an email is sent to clarify the administration’s position.

Even though I’d never make it as a diplomat, even I realize it’s not polite to insult your hosts while in their home, but I think if Biden truly “believes such practices are repugnant,” he could’ve gotten around to his economic point without saying he “fully understands” the state-sponsored forced murder of innocent babies.

Speaker John Boehner had no problem telling it straight.  “No government on Earth has the authority to place quotas on the value of innocent human life, or to treat life as an economic commodity that can be regulated and taken away on a whim by the state.”

I think this would’ve been the perfect opportunity for Biden to take the high moral ground.  While I find our own current abortion policy despicable and unacceptable at every level, I’m with Mitt Romney on this one – China’s policy is “gruesome and barbaric” — and, in my opinion, goes well beyond our own tolerance of murdering the unborn.

As Vice President, and first in line to the White House, Biden should know what he’s saying and not need a spokesman following him around to explain his words.  Walter may have Jeff Dunham, but you’d think that Biden could figure it out on his own.  So I ask you, who’s the dummy?
